About this deal

We mainly use Royal Mail Tracked 48 Service for goods which weight less then 2kg, all other goods will be delivered by a Courier. Firstly, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Hoon and Logan could ALMOST be the very same detective, if not for a few minor differences. The narration by Andrew King was very good, with excellent vocal distinction between characters, and delivered in what sounded to me like a fine Scottish accent.

I picked this up for a few reasons, but mainly because authors Alex Smith and JE Mayhew have both recommended the author and series. They feel like people I know already, in a way that often takes several books to achieve in other series. Nothing remarkable in the story-telling or the characterizations, and only passing references to the beautiful scenery, but capably written with plenty of forward momentum to hold my attention. The privations suffered by the kidnapped boy were somewhat disturbing, but to be expected given the theme of the story was child kidnapping and murder. You also don't learn anything about him having an ex-wife, not to mention a daughter he doesn't see (or seem to know anything about).

The author does an excellent job of creating a sense of realism, and the reader will feel as though they are right there alongside DCI Jack Logan as he edged closer to solving the case. The narration was expertly performed by the very talented Angus King, complete with a beautiful Scottish accent.DCI Logan is a main character I can spend a lot of time with (I like when fictional characters have a sense of humor, despite the difficult situation they are in), I prefer my detectives to be difficult, rough and loyal. I am looking forward to more from this very talented author and will stick with the audiobook format. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

While reading this 327-page book we learn nothing personal about him, except that he had a daughter somewhere. This is not intended to be a full statement of all your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. But I doubt I will bother with anymore because I shall just be irritated by Logan's unpleasant demeanor.

Rather, it was like something IKEA might use as a showpiece for its new office range designed for the deeply unimaginative. There are many similarities to a previous series of abductions and murders which Logan investigated, so he’s best placed to help. There are a couple of strong female characters - not always the case in police / crime books in my experience. Logan had arrested Petrie the Whisper Man years ago, and that case took everything from him, the details and perversions of the perp drained him out both as a person and cop. Instead, they serve to increase the sense of suspense and to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. This story has numerous graphic descriptions of the horror the villain inflicts, but it is appropriate subject matter for this story. The fish out off water setting (tick) the hard nosed not playing by the rules cop (tick) - on the other hand the plot was deftly delivered; there were the obligatory twists and turns; there was some humour; the writing wasn't trying too hard but workmanlike if not necessarily memorable. I really enjoyed the humour combined with the crime element and will definitely read more in this series. A Litterof Bones is his first crime novel, and the first of his hundred-plus books that his wife could bring herself to read. I feel once I start something I owe it not only to the author, but to the people who read my blog, to finish it out.
