Description

Communion is the iconic classic in which Whitley Strieber describes his 1985 close encounter experiences. These are the questions Streiber raises in his book, probably the all-time definitive book about alien abduction.

Regardless of if it was an actual visitor from somewhere unknown or if it was a figment of their imagination, for them, it's real, and they're scared and they're anxious and they're confused. Since our earliest beginnings, every documented society has gathered to perform elaborate rites and ceremonies - from mass worship to body modification - yet ritual poses a deep paradox: why do we give the utmost importance to otherwise pointless activities? The author’s writing style could be too self-referential, as he was constantly name-dropping the titles of other books he’s written and assuring readers of his sanity. And Whitley Strieber's riveting account of what he experienced, along with his relentless and expert pursuit of the reality behind the experience, is to this day the greatest such account ever published. No wonder I had nightmares back then, but for some reason I am fascinated by the experiences of others. I liked reading this twenty-six years after it was published, because it makes things like the "visitors" trying to help mankind because of the ozone hole a little bit discredited. His other non-fiction works include Transformation, Breakthrough: The Next Step, The Secret School, Solving the Communion Enigma: What Is to Come, and Miraculous Journey. On December 26th, 1985, Whitley Strieber was woken in his isolated cabin in upstate New York, he saw a creature in his bedroom.

At this point you start to ask: what exactly is going on here, lies or madness, something actually weird, or a mixture. I wish to be clear that I felt, at that moment, wide awake and in full possession of all my faculties. The way that they have a "hive mind" and the similar jumpsuits, and even the asiatic looks of the visitors can all seem to be projected fears of communism during the Cold War. You can tell that the author is a skilled horror/suspense novelist, whom I already know from his unconventional werewolf novel "The Wolfen": "Communion" is structured more like a novel with a clear narrative, than like most nonfiction books about UFOs I've read. Whitley comes up with a lot of different ideas about what his and others experiences could mean, what they are, and why they're happening. On December 26, 1985, at a secluded cabin in upstate New York, Whitley Strieber went skiing with his wife and son, ate Christmas dinner leftovers, and went to bed early. This very much sounds like the rantings of a man who has experienced traumatic events and doesn't know what to make of it.
