In fact, of the four Jewell novels I’ve read to-date, this is the one I struggled the most to set down for any length of time. Her novels have sold over10 million copiesinternationally, and her work has also been translated into twenty-nine languages.

He observes teenage girls from a nearby school as they navigate the trials of adolescence; he observes a mysterious woman who wanders around the neighborhood, keeping a special eye on his father; he observes the way his own mother has seemed to shrink to a shadow of her former self. They absolutely did the most investigative work that propelled the story when most of the problems revolved around their parents/adult neighbors. Huge thanks to Vanessa and her publisher for giving us this early sneak peek—I can’t wait to read BLOOD SISTERS this fall! For one thing, he has taken a particular liking to her best friend and fellow classmate, and Jenna's mother - whose mental health has admittedly been deteriorating in recent years - is convinced that Mr.the cast of characters is quite large so you should set aside enough time that you can read a large part of the book at one time. After devoting my entire October to-read list to supernatural thrillers for spooky season, I was ready to get back to my psychological suspense roots this month—and ideally, I wanted something that was a little bit more lighthearted and “popcorn-y” for a change of pace. Tom Fitzwilliam is a teacher at a local school, a mysterious and enigmatic man whose sterling-silver reputation hides a past that seems to be one big question mark. All the characters lie to each other and themselves at different points of the novel and that brings out about all kinds of added conflict and bad behavior.

being a grown-up is not about getting married, about smart flats and reading groups; it’s about taking responsibility for your own actions and the consequences of those actions. One midsummer night during a neighborhood party, Pip, who is on the brink of teenagehood, finds her blood-soaked thirteen-year-old sister lying unconscious in a luxuriant rose garden. Even though it was revealed that Tom didn’t actually have an affair with Viva, do you believe that he still played a role in what happened to her? Secrets abound in this neighborhood, and readers witness them firsthand through Jewell’s multiple narrators, and through a birds-eye view provided by Freddie, the neighborhood’s resident chronicler. As always, Lisa Jewell has provided a satisfying character study into the darker side of human nature.

I love when I get to put on my super sleuth hat and attempt to figure out what is going on in a book. Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn and Ruth Ware, Watching You will keep you guessing as “Jewell teases out her twisty plot at just the right pace” (Booklist , starred review) until the startling revelations on the very last page. This reading group guide for Watching You includes discussion questions and ideas for enhancing your book club. I found if I tried to pick it up for 15 or 20 minutes here and there I started to forget who was doing what.

Married to her college sweetheart, she owns a chain of upscale hair salons, and Derek runs his own company. When reports of a missing cat and a distant country cottage emerge, Ana raises numerous questions about the sister she thought she knew. Joey and her husband, Alfie, recently moved in with her brother, Jack and wife, Rebecca, who reside two doors down from the Fitzwilliam family. She is very fond of her handsome husband, Alfie, but she treats him like a puppy – and doesn’t want to break his heart….

The central theme of being watched or being the watcher is what elevates this novel from what I consider typical suspense to something much creepier in feel. Joey (Josephine) Mullen– is a twenty-seven year old newlywed who married in haste and is now questioning her decision. She stands up and turns to survey the scene of the crime: a scruffy kitchen, old-fashioned pine units, a green Aga piled with pots and pans, a large wooden table piled with table mats and exercise books and newspapers and folded washing, a small extension to the rear with a cheap timber glazed roof, double doors to the garden, a study area with a laptop, a printer, a shredder, a table lamp. Single mom Alice finds a mysterious man sitting alone on a beach in the coastal town of Ridinghouse Bay. For one thing, he has taken a particular liking to her best friend and fellow classmate, and Jenna’s mother—whose mental health has admittedly been deteriorating in recent years—is convinced that Mr.There’s something special about a book that can manage to be intricate and binge-worthy all at once, and it’s this intoxicating combination that makes Lisa Jewell’s psychological thrillers such a hit for me. Right off the bat, the reader learns a murder has taken place in Melville Heights but we don’t know who was murdered and who did it. From this story’s outset, readers know that a murder will take place before the story’s end—but the identities of victim and perpetrator are a mystery.
