My hope is I can force the matrix pads into a glissando mode that we all so desire, and get a knock-off linnstrument. Joué Play is equipped with a multi-touch sensor sensitive to changes in pressure and its unique expressiveness is based on the know-how developed in the case of its predecessor Lemur, a pioneer of multi-touch controllers. These can take the form of more conventional keyboards and pads, or sometimes touch systems, like those from ROLI and Sensel.

Download the free Play app for Mac, PC or iOS, and when you connect the board to your device, it loads up the relevant set of instruments for the pad you have fitted. I believe multi-touch screens have this issue but the firmware calculates the true values from interfering data streams.Use the Joue Play with its dedicated app or compose with hundreds of sound banks via Garageband, learn to play in a fun and playful way with Melodics or remix the creations of millions of users from BandLabsocial platform. MPE polyphonic glide works fine: A glissando option switches between the playing of glissandos (with all intermediate notes triggering) versus being able to glide a single note across multiple keys. If I remember correctly, it’s just “which overlay, what serial number, and which sensor was it detected on”. Adjust the tempo of your song, or the volume of each track directly from the app or go even further by experimenting with in-app effects that can be controlled on your pads.

There might be a slight loss in the granularity of pressure, as bit-space is divided between the two inputs (i.The top of the device sports a metal plate with a recessed area which takes a selection of brightly-coloured flexible silicone 'modules'. While the patent and fcc documents note that the areas could be denoted within the memory, I think it’s hard coded in the firmware and the module is just storing parameters for the module type. Grand Clavier: A full-width 'grand piano' module offering two octaves of piano keys (each somewhat wider than the keys on the synth module), again with optional vibrato, Y sensing and aftertouch. The J-App provides you with tutorials and a library of covers updated every month to interpret or remix. The editor manages presets (left-hand panel), and allows MIDI configuration on a preset-by-preset basis (right-hand panel).

Unlike the Sensel, the Joué doesn't feature Bluetooth for wireless operation, and its interfacing is purely MIDI. Combined with the ability to layer sounds, you can make multi-part, multi-instrument projects and then export them as audio mixdowns, stems or MIDI files. The piano notes are just about big enough for accurate playing and the key and drum pads a bit easier. And when both fingers apply maximum pressure, the aftertouch values for each finger end up being about half the maximum aftertouch value. The others can be assigned a variety of MIDI messages, or act as toggles for other modes like sustain and vibrato. You can of course create your own projects, and choose a suitable sound pack: a wide range of genres are covered. Joué Play sends MIDI over USB, but the Pro firmware upgrade (€50) unlocks full MIDI and MPE mapping. What this all means is the best strategy is to use values 0-30 for aftertouch data and throw out the rest.

You know, this honestly doesn’t sound like a sensor issue as much as a firmware issue on how it calculates pressure. The app allows you to add multiple parts of different bar lengths and quantise or delete the recordings, though not edit in any greater depth than that. All image and audio content is used by permission of the copyright holders or their agents, and/or according to fair dealing as per the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

I hoped it was just a firmware issue but when I asked on the official forum that they used to run years ago, they said it was a sensor limitation. Express yourself in the moment with natural gestures and enjoy all the spontaneity and expressiveness of acoustic instruments.
