Description

There is an abundance of warning, based on real-world experience, of the many traps that lie in wait for the practitioner of the electronic art … In spite of the analog bent, the digital information in this book is an excellent source for the analog engineer to get started using digital systems for the control of analog circuits.

I highly recommend for the hobbyist, but beware highlighting, just slip some copy paper between pages before to prevent bleed through. Sure, if you’ve studied another field of engineering, you could probably pick up a copy and start running, but for the true beginner without any engineering experience, you would probably want to start elsewhere and refer to AoE for more advanced discussions — sound off in the comments with beginner book recommendations if you have them. Paul Horowitz is Professor of Physics at Harvard University, where he originated the Laboratory Electronics course in 1974, from which emerged The Art of Electronics. I haven’t worked with too many excellent analog or mechanical engineers, so my experience with analog design has always been “If you see someone solving an equation for anything other than RF, digital, or power, you’re in for a hassle”, and I never paid much attention to the more arcane stuff. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. This epic work was created by two of the best experts in the field (with many others providing information). The new Art of Electronics retains the feeling of informality and easy access that helped make the first edition so successful and popular. How to get up to speed with anything new that might have appeared - after all it's been the best part of 40 years.

The effected area was only about 10mm x 10mm at 2 corners, and using a scalpel, i was able to carefully cut away the tiny amount of surplus paper - the 'surgery' is barely noticeable. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Horowitz and Sanni have a well-designed reputation for putting out a well-written easy read, which in the electronic engineering field is no small feat. It defines the current state of the art in electronics … Most parts of the book will continue to be relevant for several decades. The Art of Electronics: The x-Chapters expands on topics introduced in the best-selling third edition of The Art of Electronics, completing the broad discussions begun in the latter. is particularly interesting, covering mechanical switches and relays, components that we sometimes forget have non-ideal characteristics. My only ‘twinge’ is that it discloses and explains (in glorious graphical detail and with real part numbers) many topics that I thought were my personal trade secrets. Likewise, there are discussions of real-world resistors of various types, including digital potentiometers.

It’s really too bad that they don’t teach more about circuits design and manipulation in undergrad as it is more applicable to a lot of jobs. I started with the second edition and it was very well worn when I purchased a copy of the third, an upgrade I would recommend to anyone still on the fence. Usually publishers’ contracts with book distributors only allow one edition to be sold in a given territory. This book can be read as a story book from night stand, and I literally do read it before going to sleep. They work through a detailed example simulating several BJT amplifiers in SPICE to measure distortion.I believe the strength of this book stems from the authors' background in physics … The key being that electronics is not their primary interest. Like it or not, this will probably continue as long as there are different markets with big wealth disparities. Recent interests include high-voltage RF (to 15 kV), high-current pulsed electronics (to 1200 A), low-noise amplifiers (to sub-n V and pA), and MOSFET pulse generators.

I suspect that just as importantly though, the time needed to publish these chapters would have allowed the rest of the information updated in AoE3 to stagnate for 4 years. This is the thoroughly revised and updated second edition of the hugely successful The Art of Electronics. props for stumbling upon material regarding buck converters that nonchalantly informed me that had i gone through with a plan of mine, i'd have started a major fire. I purchased the print version as I was concerned that tech books don't display well on Kindle devices. However, for those interested in 1960s-1980s vintage analog synthesizers, this turns out to be a plus. Literally the worst introduction to transistors I have ever seen, for the past few hours I have been trying to find something worst and it seems impossible.
