The caveat in this case is that they sit right at the bottom of the device, because the d-pad and ABXY occupy the prime spot.

While all the games run fine, it may be a challenge to run certain games that lean more into the dual-screen experience of the original hardware. Each operating system has it’s own advantages and disadvantages in terms of usability, ability to configure settings and performance.What you'll have to do is from within Emulationstation, scroll through the systems to the retroarch menu, then select either retroarch or retroarch32, then make your global changes there and save current configuration there. For some games this may not be a deal-breaker, but for most of the library you’ll find yourself needing the touchscreen at least occasionally.
