Tai: This book is about someone fulfilling their dreams. This is a story is about a slave boy named Perilus who always wanted to be a charioteer. Who finally got his chance when Scorcha, the greatest charioteer in Rome, got put in jail on the big race day for stealing some goats. Perilus took his place and won the race, so Scorcha could get into the green team: Rome’s greatest chariot team. My favourite part of the story was the excitement of the chariot racing. I enjoyed all the characters in the story but one of my favourite one’s was Perilus because he is an intelligent ,interesting character and I also found the raven interesting because he was the narrator of the story. I would rate this book five stars. There was nothing I didn’t like or there was nothing I would improve about the story.

The funniest part of the book was when the elephant (Tiddles) broke into a prison, and used water to squirt the guards, to save Waddya’s family. Maddashbananus made the skateboard and the people who race in races use skateboards. My favourite character in his book is Croakbag because is always very funny, he loves saying he is the ‘cleverest raven in the world’, he really likes biscuits and he teaches you Latin every now and then through the book. You will love him!

I really enjoyed it I thought it was very funny. I liked the crow he was very amusing when he said "give us a biscuit". The history was very good and very realistic it felt like it was wrote as the author was there. It made me want to learn more about chariots and Roman soldiers and has inspired me to look at more books written by this author. We then wanted to understand where the Romans came in the world’s history, so we made a human timeline outside to get our bearings of where the Romans were in history. Kitty: Perlis is crazy about chariot racing. And is being taught by Scorcher [the best charioteer in Rome.] Unfortunately, scorcher has been sent to jail … even worse on the BIG RACE! What’s perilous going to do? This book is based in the roman period .I would also recommend this for [9-11] years. As this will make u giggle and smile for the rest of the day. Teach - teachers clarify the meaning of words which will be encountered in the text using images, drama, actions and sentences of varying contexts. We explore links between words children already know and try to include the new vocabulary with prefixes, suffixes, synonyms and antonyms. The author uses various openers. We have taken some sentences from chapters 4-6 that use a range of different openers. Your class will have to identify the type of opener used in each sentence.Throughout the book, the Raven introduces the reader to various Latin words. Your class will extract a definition for each Latin word based on the information and context provided in the story. This book is about a Roman family who is thought to have stolen money from the Imperial Mint. Croakbag, the raven tries to figure out who stole the money and why they do it. He can’t just ask everyone in Rome, “Have you stolen any money from the imperial mint?”!

But when Perilus's hero, the brilliant charioteer Scorcha , goes missing on the day of the big race, Perilus finds his wish coming true sooner than he'd imagined! A laugh-out-loud story from King of Comedy Jeremy Strong. About This Edition ISBN:Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - This looks great. Do you have a list of the books you have used throughout the year for KS2 under the new system? This is an excellent book for people who like comedy. It also teaches you quite a few Latin words along the way. Moreover I really like how the author turned words like ridiculous and perilous into the characters’ names (Ridiculus and Perilus). My favourite characters are definitely Croakbag, the crow, and Scorcha, a famous charioteer. It really made me want to find out more about romans. I would definitely recommend this book to any 7-11 year old. Unfortunately, they were busy excavating over in York so they asked us to take a look, they taught us how to be archaeologist and off we went to the field! We don't look at every word. If you look at the plans, you'll see we started with 20+ words per chapter but this became around 10 as we started teaching with the new approach. We don't feel we've lost anything by reducing how many RICs we do. Children have been doing them for years and so now we only use them when there is meaty content to be discussed.

We had heard the name Julius Caesar being mentioned a lot during the invasions so we wanted to find out more about him. We used the iPads to help with our research. My favourite part in the story was at the start when it told me about the boys dream to be a chariot racer.

Follow On

The family live across the street from a house where lots of poor Romans live together, because they cannot afford their own houses. Including two ex-slaves: Maddusbananus, who wants to be a millionaire from selling his inventions and Scorcha who shares Perilus’ ambition to become a charioteer. Perilus often sneaks out to the house across the road to practice chariot racing with Scorcha and some borrowed goats. Many disasters happen to the friends until one day Perilus is called upon to save the day while Scorcha is in jail. John: I didn’t like the book because it was difficult to follow the story line and I found it rather dull. I was surprised not to enjoy it as I had read other books by Jeremy Strong before – like “The Hundred Mile and Hour Dog” which I really enjoyed.
