To answer that question you have to ask yourself what are your “essentials” in a detector and what can you compromise on? The next way manufacturers offered this was to allow the user to manually change the change the frequency they wished to use.

Unlike the steady and repeatable tones, you should get them when you hit something like a US coin on the surface or within 6 feet.In this regard, you might soon join the club by growing to appreciate the simplicity of only having three target tones. Depth PerformanceVanquish 440, the “middle brother” of the series, is more advanced in terms of features. It has four search modes – Coins, Jewelry, Relics, and Custom mode where you can choose specific settings, save them, and discriminate certain metal types. The discrimination scale is bigger, as well, which means more control over target spotting. You shouldn’t have any performance issues with the Vanquish 340. The auto Noise Cancel feature using 19 channels, and auto ground balance are superb functionalities. There are 3 volume levels on the Vanquish 340 vs 10 levels on the 440 and 540. Is that a big deal? I don’t think so. It is more adjustment than a Garrett Ace 400i for example, which has no volume control at all!

All aspects of this multi-frequency detector will show admirable performance that you can confidently take to the streets. Coil PerformanceMinelab's Vanquish 340is the entry-level model in the Vanquish series of metal detectors. With technology not found in far more expensive machines and turn on and gousability combined with a lightweight, compact design, nothing comes close to it at this low price. Offering maximum power at a minimal cost, it is the best choice for children &beginners in the world of metal detecting.

The design of the Vanquish series is rather curious, and while it really reminds a device from some kind of videogame of the 80s, at least it does not fall apart when handled (like Go-Find does). Vanquish looks pretty solid. The Vanquish 340 has 5 segments of discrimination. The 440 gets 12 and the 540 is equipped with 25. Are 5 segments of discrimination enough? For me probably yes. I tend to use minimum discrimination anyway and I don’t use notch at all. Search Modes: In addition to the conventional 3 search modes I’ve talked about earlier, the Vanquish 440 offers a 4 th relic mode in case you are looking for antique stuff (like WW or old battlefield targets) and a 5 thcustom mode in which you can actually define the exact settings you think you will need depending on the ground conditions and the target you are looking for … I don’t recommend using the custom mode unless you’ve learnt your machine quite well using the 4 default modes.Minelab have given the 340 5 levels of sensitivity adjustment. The 440 and 540 have 10 levels. Again I am not sure this is a particularly big deal. I never move from the default of 20 on the Equinox and I am pretty sure I would not need to adjust the levels on the Vanquish 340 that much if at all. as seen in the Equinox Series which made it a real game changer in the metal detecting world and by far the best selling metal detector in 2018, 2019 and probably all-time to date. If you are someone new coming into the wonderful world of metal detecting, you’ve arrived at a great time where detecting technology has made a breakthrough with multi frequency detection.

However, Garrett does not include a DD coil with every machine. They offer a concentric coil with two of their models. Regardless, lets break down the type and size of the coil that each series includes with their metal detectors. Garrett Ace 250 I would have to say that the Minelab Vanquish Series of machines will overrun the market for these types of metal detectors. Price and Multi-IQ are the game changers in my opinion. But many Garrett Ace owners will stand by their machines. As with the Vanquish line, the Equinox 600 comes with a 3-year warranty. This model is designed for beginning to intermediate detectorists. Metal detectors only consisted of single frequency technology in the main. This was the norm as it really was the only thing that was available. The Vanquish 440 would be an appropriate detector for beginning detectorists or more intermediate detectorists.Installation will take approximately one minute. Once the upgrade is complete, VANQUISH will restart and the MUU will prompt you to disconnect the detector and QUIT the application. It has superb depth and sensitivity along with constantly giving you stable target identification due to the increased information from its five frequencies. The Vanquish series is a game changer! You won’t lose your settings in Custom search when you power off the 440 or when it runs out of power while you’re using it. Unlike the 340, the 540 isn’t limited to its high Iron Bias default. You can change the Iron Bias setting to “Low.” With Minelab's simultaneous multi-frequency it's like using all your coils in one sweep of your machine. Three Simultaneous Frequencies
