New Chaos Space Marines Combat Patrol: Price & Value

First off, the Chaos Space Marines look great, their overall aesthetic hasn’t changed much over the years and it hasn’t needed to. They’re an imposing force to deal with, much like their Space Marine kin, but with some extra cruelty mixed in for good measure. This is an excellent starter box for those that want to turn worship the Chaos gods. The mix of troops allows for players to try different tactics and play styles to see what they prefer. And, like many of the other Combat Patrol boxes, each unit will become mainstays in your army even as it grows. Are They Difficult To Paint?

Warhammer 40k World Eaters tactics

A Dark Apostle leads the combat patrol while reciting passages from a book… that’s on fire. He’s flanked by two dark disciples who are excellent in close quarters combat. Five Havocs are ready to bring the pain with heavy weapons, including an intimidating chaingun. Ten Chaos Space Marines bring a good mix of mid to close range weapons and the patrol is finished with heavy support in the form of a Helbrute that can dish out and take punishment as needed.

This week’s Citadel Colour Masterclass is all about the basics of freehanding. If you’ve ever wanted to dip your toe** into this advanced technique, this is the show you need to watch. Let’s pretend you’re going with Abaddon (which you could swap out for a Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour and maybe another 5 Terminators instead). That’s 500-ish points before wargear. Leading this tide of traitors out of the warp is a Dark Apostle and his two obsequious Dark Disciples. Whispering twisted exultations to the Chaos Gods, this Priest can bestow malefic blessings upon your army, including Core units like the Legionaries and Havocs who accompany him. Finally if you want to bring anything from the Forge World library of Chaos models, such as the Kytan Ravager, Blood Slaughterer of Khorne, or the Hellforged dreadnoughts, you need this book. There’s some cool stuff in there, but it’s not a book that you absolutely need – you can run a perfectly great Chaos army using just the units in the Codex. War Zone Charadon Act II: The Book of Fire Previously only available in the Burning of Prospero boxed set, Geigor Fell-Hand is available separately, for the first time ever, in plastic. He’s champing at the bit to be let loose on the enemies of the Imperium, and will lead your Space Wolves to savage glory on the battlefields of the 31st Millennium. Legiones Astartes: Praetor and Chaplain Consul

World Eaters tactics are beautifully, brutally simple – run towards your enemy, and put an axe in their face. TheRage-Fuelled Invigoration Blessing of Khorne is a good way to get this moving, granting your whole force +2″ movement. In 10th edition there are very few restrictions on how you build armies, and two World Eaters Combat Patrols would make an excellent, if infantry-heavy, start to your force. This is… just OK. As far as being a value vs. MSRP goes it’s fine, but long-term you’re probably not going to use the Helbrute and the Havocs are more of a situational add to the army. The Chaos Space Marines notably don’t come with the new sprue to upgrade the unit to have a psyker or a heavy chainaxe – those will be options for the kill team – and so I might generally recommend passing on this box in favor of buying the individual units you’ll need.

One notable thing about these armies is that Chaos Space Marines can take units from each – the rules for Plague Marines, Rubric Marines, and Khorne Berzerkers are in each of these books/articles, and so you’ll need them if you want to include them in your army. Imperial Armour Compendium Likewise, the MKVI-armoured Space Marines first available in the Age of Darkness set are also now available separately. You get 20 highly posable plastic Astartes armed with bolters and grenades, plus optional bayonets or chain-bayonets. There are also parts to build up to two Sergeants armed with various pistols and close combat weapons, as well as troops equipped with wargear like the nuncio-vox, a Legion vexilla, and augury scanner. Space Wolves: Geigor Fell-Hand Shooting. Chaos Space Marine shooting is generally not very good; most CSM guns top out at 24″ or 36″ range and most of the army’s core units rely on AP 0 boltguns, which are not good. While Chaos Space Marines certainly have some better shooting options, such as Obliterators, Contemptors, and Havocs, it’s not the army’s strongest area. Borrowed Units. Chaos Space Marine armies can run Plague Marines, Rubric Marines, and Berzerkers, and these each have some interesting play in the army. Warhammer 40K Combat Patrol: World Eaters is one of the newest box sets to have been revealed by Games Workshop. This is one of the best ways to start collecting the World Eaters army or add to your Angron’s horde. The box comes with 20 Khorne Berzerkers and 10 Jakhals led by World Eaters Lord on Juggernaut, who can also be built as Lord Invocatus. In many ways these subfactions were the model for the Detachment system we see in 10th edition; each subfaction had its own stratagems and relics which did not overlap. We expect the Disciples of the Red Angel to return as a World Eaters Detachment in due course for 10th edition. The Warhammer 40K Combat Patrol: Blood Angels is a boxed set of 15 miniatures of collective 500-point value. The Blood Angels are another Space Marines Chapter, and they are direct descendants of the primarchs, the genetically-engineered sons of the Emperor of Mankind. In the story of the game, the Blood Angels have suffered heavy defeats, leading the vanguard against xenos across the universe and facing countless foes. Or do you just run headlong at the ones in no man’s land and have a massive dust-up? We know what the Orks would do. The Thousand Sons march to war under the auspices of an Infernal Master, his five Scarab Occult Terminator bodyguards, and more Tzaangors than you can shake a force stave at (20!). While the Tzaangors swarm across the battlefield claiming objectives, the Terminators continue their implacable advance, gunning down foes with inferno combi-bolters and cutting down anyone who gets too close with their khopesh blades. Grey Knights Combat Patrol Ah, the Blood Angels– noble and civilised sons of Sanguinius, most handsome, tragic, star-crossed and pretty of all the Emperor’s ‘Primarch’ sons. These renaissance Italy-themed space marines are among the most storied and popular chapters of the Adeptus Astartes.

Bolster your forces – be they Traitor or Loyalist – with this set of two Adeptus Astartes HQ options. Originally available in the Space Marine Heroes set, these two plastic miniatures can lead your forces in both the martial and spiritual arenas. The Praetor is clad in Cataphractii Terminator armour, wielding a chainfist and a combi-melta, while the Chaplain is in artificer armour with a plasma pistol and Crozius Arcanum. You also get a set of Horus Heresy transfers. Dice: Sons of Horus and Imperial Fists Known for their stealth tactics and use of Cultist forces seeded and outfitted ahead of their arrival, Alpha Legion work well with most units thanks to being more difficult to hit from a distance, helping them close the gaps. The rules for the Alpha Legion tend to favor versatility and subterfuge, and they have several rules that can apply to Cultists by virtue of just being INFANTRY-keyworded, though you may find they don’t necessarily want to run a ton of cultists. We got so excited about Combat Patrol that we couldn’t help but come up with a few army lists, all coming in at around a Power Level of 25. We’re starting with a couple that you can make with the models in the new Indomitus boxed set . Indomitus Necrons Former eighth captain of the World Eaters legion and Angron’s only trusted son, Khârn the Betrayer‘s descent into madness is one of the greatest tragedies in the Horus Heresy. In the 41st millennium Khârn is an avatar of slaughter, as deadly to his allies as to his enemies, and on the tabletop he’s prone to decapitating his own troops just to keep his arm in.

Combat Patrol contents

Usually, GW has waited until the codex has actually been released to reveal what the Combat Patrol will be. We’re often left guessing whether or not the picture in the codex is the actual box but this time, we don’t have to wait! A Dark Apostle leads the combat patrol while reciting passages from a book... that’s on fire. This is a Khorne list so it’s not going to be super complex. You’ve got less options than previously and since we’re assuming you’re starting from scratch and might want to tweak your options later on down the road then Bloodthirsters are where it’s at. Games Workshop tweaked how Bloodthirsters work in the new book and upped their points cost to 310 each. You can make them Exalted which can add either 20, 35, or 40 points depending on which option you choose. You can read more about competitive play and lists in our article Start Competing: Chaos Space Marines. …Want to Go More Casual
