Description

Schluter metal strips are great for creating a seamless, professional finish in tiled areas. They can be used as edge protection for exposed tile edges or as a divider between different types of tiles.

Jolly pieces and pencil trim are very similar to each other and look much like a quarter-round piece. These long, narrow pieces are most commonly used to frame shower niches or finish corners. They’re also made of different materials , which is a notable difference. Bullnose tile is made of the same material as the surrounding tiles, while Schluter is typically made from metal or plastic. 2. Price Finishing the edges with caulk and opting out of using a tile trim piece is a cheap and easy option, but it’s not the prettiest. One caveat– this only works when you are working on an outside corner. The picture is better than any description I can provide. It shows the 3″ tile along the outside wall curving around to my bathtub shower surround on the right. You’ve tiled. You’ve grouted. And yet things still look a little unfinished. That’s probably because you haven’t yet finished the edges and corners on your tiles. When exposed edges of tiles at the end of a row or column are visible, it can make your tiling look messy and unprofessional. Finishing can help. Do All Tiles Need Finishing? If bullnose is unavailable, you can make your own rounded bullnose tile piece. This is probably the riskiest and most complicated option. I recommend exploring the other options before attempting this task. They make a “blade” for this that can fit on a tile saw for the DIY’ers that want to try this. I’ve had mediocre results when I tried this but it works. Bullnose tiles are rounded on one edge , giving them a soft, intricate appearance. However, they do not offer any structural support and should not be used on outside corners or in areas where tile may receive a heavy impact. Jolly pieces are similar to pencil trim except that the edges are raw and squared-off, instead of round and smooth. When installing a bullnose edge, it is essential first to measure and cut the tile for a proper fit . Once cut, the tile can be applied using a thin-set mortar and a trowel, being careful to press firmly and evenly into place.

Perhaps the most common tile edging option is a bullnose finish. This is an edging option that’s designed to match your tiles, and most manufacturers offer a bullnose solution to complement each tile in their range. For example, if you’ve selected a porcelain tile, you should be able to buy a porcelain tile edge finishing in the same style. Similarly, if you’re using ceramic tiles, look for a ceramic tile edging trim from the same manufacturer which matches nicely. There are four primary types of tile edge trim that can be utilized to finish the edge of your tiling installations. These include stone trims, porcelain or ceramic trim tiles, as well as plastic and metal trims. These come in different setups depending on the product and their use, but the metal tile trims (metal tile edging) and stone trims are the most well-known types.First, choose what type of trim you need. For a consistent look, coordinate the trim to the rest of your tiles. For instance, if you utilized white porcelain tiles, get white porcelain bullnose tiles. In the event that you need something bolder, try tiles in a differentiating color or a distinctive material, such as metal or wood. Caulking around the edges is another alternative. External corner tiles: make external corners a stylish feature in their own right with our glossy ceramic corner tiles However, the added safety and aesthetic appeal may outweigh these considerations for some homeowners or designers. Moreover, the bullnose edge is not just for aesthetics but also for practical purposes . The rounded edge helps prevent chipping and provides structural support to the countertop.

But metal profiles are a fast-growing market and there are a lot more options and styles than there used to be. Overall, incorporating bullnose edge tiles is an easy way to elevate the overall look of any tiled surface. What are the differences between Schluter and bullnose? With such a diverse selection, we understand that each and every one of our tiles is different and comes with its own unique applications for different design projects. Whether you’re a traditionalist when it comes to interior decorating or you like to stay firmly in the 21st century, you’ve come to the right place. Floors: A row of bullnose tiles can take the place of a wooden baseboard and give any bathroom floor a finished look. This added moisture protection will also help to preserve the bottom portion of your walls.

If your tile selection is unavailable in bullnose, you can get creative and find a similar style of tile. We did this with the Carerra marble in our shower niche and on the shower wall. The Carrera marble that we found available in bullnose was an almost exact match for the large marble hexagon tiles so it worked out well.
