Launched with Android 6.0.1 onboard, the Honor 6X received its first major update in Android 7.0. Some brutal truth be spoken, Android devices in the price range where Honor 6X sells, do not generally receive two major Android OS updates. November 23, 2017 – International: Samsung is rolling out the third Android 8.0 Oreo beta for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. By the time Huawei is able to prepare and release an 8.0 build for the P9, we think it would be in Q2 2018. In fact, a beta program is already open not only for Huawei P9, but also the Plus variant. Update [January 13, 2018]: Oreo for the Honor 9i has been confirmed by Huawei. It should be released sometime in Q2 2018, especially now that the Mate 10 Lite, which is the Honor 9i’s global name, has already received Oreo. Honor 8 Oreo update ArrowOS is a new Custom ROM and it is AOSP inspired open-source project started with the aim of keeping things simple, clean, and neat. The ROM brings almost the same feature which is very useful for ROM customization and in the end aiming to deliver smooth performance with better battery life. April 17, 2018 – T-Mobile US: The Oreo update for T-Mobile variants of the LG V30 has been delayed. The carrier apparently opted to do so after LG “made a booboo”. The update is now expected to be released in about two weeks.March 20, 2018 – Canada: Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus users in Canada are also now receiving the Oreo update on Bell, Fido, Freedom Mobile, Rogers, Telus, Videotron, and Virgin Mobile. Hence, we wouldn’t be surprised if Huawei doesn’t release the Android 8.0 for Honor 6X. But in case they do, it would be one awesome job. The above is exactly why we are not sure the Y3 and Y5 and y7 sets are eligible for the Oreo update. At best, we think only the Y7 2017 edition could see an upgrade to Android 8.0. Yes, we don’t think even all 2017 edition in the Y series would get 8.0 support – in our books, the Y3 2017 and Y5 2017 stand very low chances of getting an official Android 8.0 OTA from Huawei.

We really do not expect Huawei, or any other OEM for that matter, to upgrade any of its 2015 launch to Oreo. Earlier this year, Google has promised to bring many new feature in the latest version of Android Oreo which includes,New app notifications, notification dots on app icons, picture-in-picture mode, Android Instant App compatibility,Auto-fill (like on Chrome),Better copy and paste,Faster Android behind the scenes, Better battery life with more advanced Doze mode, and more. Update [July 2, 2018]: Huawei Mate 10 Lite and Huawei P10 Lite are now receiving Android 8.0 Oreo in Europe. More details here. Huawei Mate 9 Oreo update OmniROM is one of thelatest Custom ROM developed by many developers as a group project. This includes developers from Chainfire, Xplodwild, and Dees_Troy. The ROM is based on the AOSP or the Android Open Source Project like most of the Custom ROMs out there. The EMUI 8.0, which is Huawei’s design fork over Android 8.0 Oreo, is expected to launch with Mate 10. We expect Huawei to further slim down on customization and make its EMUI skin even easy to get used to, rather than bogging down users with not-so-required features that come into way rather than make way for easier use of the device.February 14, 2018 – US: ZTE has announced an Android 8.0 Oreo beta program for Axon 7 users in the US. Notifications Channels– This feature provides the ability to group notifications from numerous apps into one channel. This means you can group notifications for certain apps together and make it easier for the management of notifications. This is overall a nice addition to what Google started with AndroidNougat. AICP also stands f0r Android ICE Cold Project which is an aftermarket firmware based on Android Open Source Project. The ROM is first developedfor the HTC Desire HD device in the year 2012. Since then AICP has evolved into a mature ROM with the BEST community that you can find! Currently, the ROM is based on Lineage OS with some tweaks from AOSP. Update [May 8, 2018]: There are a number of devices that can now join Huawei’s beta program for testing Android Oreo. On the list is a couple of surprises in the shape of Honor 8 and Honor 6X. These two had been ruled out of Oreo updates, but it seems they are getting ready to receive the new OS sometime this Q2 or in Q3 2018.
