I've always had a fascination with this self-made woman, and I remember reading a review of the paperback version of this book on a blog a few years back, and thinking I must read it. I loved the photos in the middle of the book, and I thought the book flowed well and was really well written. This biography does give understanding into several aspects of Chanel’s life as her life as a romantic hero, the orphan, the woman, the designer, the spy and the icon. I don't speak French, but I can only hope the times she employed that language she did better than with the English, when words were mis-pronounced (e.

I have a passing knowledge of Coco Chanel but this book really helped me learn a lot more about her. Coco Chanel had a really interesting life and rose from being an 'orphan' into owning one of the biggest fashion houses in the world. As the holidays roll around, you might have a little bit more time to read and fully immerse yourself in a great story. She spends a great deal of time telling us what biographer X or biographer Y had to say about this or that murky period in the life of Chanel.Chanel is a luxury company that focuses on high fashion and ready-made clothes, luxury products, and accessories and the person behind the company, Coco Chanel really is a mystery and a wonder wrapped in a petite frame of a woman with a spirit of steel. A feminist who believed in dressing for the real woman; she faced years of scrutiny and had to battle competitions from male designers who were dictating what women should wear. In this book from the highly acclaimed Little People, BIG DREAMS series, discover the incredible life of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. I would recommend the book but it does jump around a bit and some things that Coco said and stories she told about herself are hard to trace so we don't actually know if they are all true.

The easy-to-read and well-written book provides a wealth of information not only about Chanel’s life but also about her friends and loves. It's probably pretty interesting if you're a huge Chanel fan and/or really into fashion, but I'm neither of these. Paper dolls, learning cards, matching games, and other fun learning tools provide even more ways to make the lives of these role models accessible to children. At one point, it seemed as though quite a few pages had been dedicated to the wife of a lover and, try as I might, I failed to grasp as to why this information was necessary to the book, as it apparently had no bearing on Chanel's life itself. Justine Picardie has spent the last decade puzzling over the truth about Coco Chanel, attempting to peel away the accretions of romance and lies.
