If you notice irritation when using this product, take a break for a few days and see if it clears up. I can't use my Dermatica formula, did not have the opportunity to review it before it shipped, and my request for a refund has not been addressed. It comes in an airless tube, which is the ideal packaging for skincare, it’s easy to dispense and keeps the product away from oxidants. Azelaic acid was recommended to me by renowned skin specialists Dr Stefanie Williams and Dr Anita Sturnham. The team work out what exactly your face needs – and monitor how that might change from month to month – and put it in one formula.

This product could be helpful for: Anti-aging, but its actives are not the most effective or are not well-studied. It’s a subscription service - you receive a white tube of personalised formula in the post once a month, that you put on in the evening, after cleansing and before moisturising. I found out years ago that Azelaic Acid is a reliable treatment for my acne and generally had a good effect on my skin all round, but I’ve not found it easy to get my hands on it.The way I have been slotting this into my routine is might sound a bit involved but it gets around the issue of not being able using it at the same time as tretinoin. Helps to soften the upper layer of the skin and supports the skin barrier function to keep it hydrated. My experience has genuinely been life changing, if you have bumps this is for you, if you have scarring this is for you. In the first few weeks of using Azelaic cream from Dermatica I’ve experienced a reduction in my acne, I haven’t had a big outbreak or any cystic spots. This means, at no extra cost to you, I earn some commission if you purchase a product through my link.

There are a couple of ingredients in there that might be acne triggers for those with particular sensitivities- the dimethicone and glyceryl stearate. I love the texture of this cream because it is quite thin and spreads easily over the skin and doesn’t interfere with products that I layer over it…moisturiser and SPF. When you sign up online, you answer a questionnaire about your skin, upload selfies and flag up what you’d like your serum to address. This is a truly amazing company and I am very happy to continue to use them as my first stop for facial care and cosmetics. The only downside is that it can sometimes pill if you apply certain products over the top – this mostly only happens with sunscreen sticks for me though!

There is so much clarity and brightness to it now, and it's been achieved in a gentle and respectful way. You might experience some tingling to start off with (as is the case with most azelaic acid products) but your skin will quickly get used to it! After one month of consistent twice a day usage this has really smoothed out my skin, minimized patches of redness and pushed back any breakouts. For example, The Inkey List has that peptide moisturizer , and if you put a few drops of azelaic acid in it, the two blend together as a nice, lightweight gel moisturize.

You have a dashboard on your account, onto which you’re regularly encouraged to upload photos, to show how your skin is changing, access to the derms and report any issues with your formula. Also, as things change with your skin, so does your treatment so it’s always a good idea to keep your profile updated, which Dermatica do prompt you to do with regular check-ins so that your formula is relevant to you and your skin. You aren’t likely to notice a difference when you’re looking at skin every day, so it’s really nice to see the photos side by side (if not a bit cringe). You upload photos every month or so into the online system so it’s really easy to look back and compare. I’d always had a slight discolouration on my forehead after getting burnt a few years ago, but going on holiday in the sunshine not only gave me a tan, but made the melasma so much worse as you can see. It has more of a traditional sunscreen feel to it – think Nivea and Garnier but without the fragrance and denatured alcohol.

A new tube is posted out to you each month and you have regular online check-ins with a dermatologist to ensure that your prescription is still correct for you. Yes it’s nice to receive a parcel but if you know what’s in it, then too much packaging is a distraction rather than a nicety. In March of this year, Dermatica came out with a bunch of new skincare products to be used alongside their popular personalised plans. I’m not a beauty editor, I don’t have a PhD in skincare ingredients and I don’t speak fluent actives – all of which meant I was feeling overwhelmed by the modern skincare market. If you have oily skin I think you could use this in place of a moisturiser, however, for dry skin types it may still be beneficial to use a moisturiser underneath.I bought it for my mild rosacea to see if it would help, but I had to stop using it after 4 days because my face went extremely red, like a huge flush, which I don't normally have. Founded in 2018 by Dwayne D’Souza, Dermatica is an online dermatology service that creates bespoke skincare prescriptions based on your skin’s needs.
