When you can't get your beauty sleep, caffeine and undereye patches can only go so far. Despite my low expectations, it blended out really well with just my finger and wore beautifully on my skin. Many concealers make my dry-leaning skin look powdery and just plain unnatural. If you’re using your concealer to cover up blemishes and discoloration, you do want a concealer that matches your skin tone as closely as possible so that it will look natural when blended. A concealer with yellow tones will help counteract redness. When it comes to affordable long-wear makeup, L'Oréal's Infallible line is tough to beat. This waterproof concealer covers blemishes with ease and lasts for up to 24 hours. Just a heads up—it dries super fast, so make sure to blend it immediately. Tarte's best-selling Shape Tape concealer has long been a Team Byrdie fave, so it's no surprise it earned high praise from our testers across the board. Three editors tested this formula, and each of them gave it perfect scores for its texture, staying power, coverage, and creasing. We found that the matte formula creates a smooth finish that doesn't crease or emphasize fine lines. The coverage is full and buildable, meaning it works to cover dark circles and hyperpigmentation beautifully. We also appreciate that it comes in nearly forty shades that range from very fair to very dark and vary in undertone.

Our first test used a red marker to simulate blemishes on my arm to test how well each concealer could cover them. Unfortunately, the dot was too bright to determine anything useful. Not every test is a success. We moved on to the next round. Where should you put concealer?

It can be tough to achieve a totally crease-free finish, especially under the eyes, but Tarte Shape Tape is up for the task. Available in 25 shades, makeup artist Sophia Nawabi says she'd recommend this moisturizing waterproof concealer to people of all skin tones. Plus, she adds, "A little bit goes a long way," as the product is easy to manipulate with fingers for a smooth application. Shades range from “Fair Porcelain” in the light category to “Espresso” in the deep section. I chose “Classic Ivory,” which was a tad too dark and golden for my fair neutral skin, but I could get away with it.
