Description

These two are both interviewed by the same young guy who didn't strike me as being a typical Fawlty fan, if he is then I apologise in advance. There is also one easter egg (2:28), which is also from the old DVD and shouldn't take too long to find. Highlights of this third disc are the interview with John Cleese (who is showing his age a bit ;-)) and the “Torquay Tourist Guide” which is more of a “how it all started” filmed in a documentary style, it is around twelve minutes duration.

In ‘The Anniversary’, a secret party planned for Sybil goes awry when the guest of honour storms out of the hotel. Fawlty Towers" is a good show, although its reputation has a tendency to get blown out of proportion (for instance, actor David Kelly proclaims in the extras that Basil Fawlty is "the funniest character ever broadcast on television anywhere in the world"). Together they run their hotel, Fawlty Towers, with a little help from the unflappable Polly, and Manuel, the trainee waiter from Barcelona with marginally more intelligence than a monkey. The snobbish, manic Basil, his over-coiffeured, domineering wife Sybil, the hopeless but ever-hopeful waiter Manuel, the calm and capable Polly, and of course the steady stream of abused guests — all live again in the pages of “The Complete Fawlty Towers”. Fans of the series shouldn't worry though; it may not look better, but it doesn't look any worse than it ever has (a DVDTalk forum member mentions that it's brighter, which might be true, but all I have is my memory of the last DVD; I don't have it here to compare directly). The Extras disc in the DVD box set contains a "hidden" short film clip, this page has more details and shows exactly how to access this item.

This Special Edition marks the 30th anniversary of one of the greatest situation comedies British television has ever seen.

The answer to all these questions can be found in this, the complete and unexpurgated scripts of “Fawlty Towers”. The collection is broken down as follows: BASIL THE RAT includes 'Basil the Rat,' 'The Anniversary', and 'Communication Problems'. If you are in the North America, look out for US/Canadian flag icons on popular product listings for direct links. Finally, "Basil the Rat" introduces an entirely unpredictable animal element in addition to an imposing, short-tempered health inspector. This special edition marks the 30th Anniversary of one of the greatest situation comedies British television has ever seen.
