Description

Nura and the Immortal Palace is an endearing adventure story filled with loveable characters at its core that emphasizes the cycle of exploitation. Jinns are essentially spirits and tricksters but as Nura finds out that not all jinns are scary and some are good. I’ll be getting it for my brother, so he can see the suffering of children in many parts of the world while also experiencing a great adventure where kids like him are heroes. The storyline was engaging, well-structured and I found myself transported to the jinn world with Nura.

I loved how close she was to her mother, how she treated her siblings, and how much she cared about her family.Faisal, a side character and Nura’s closest friend shines throughout the story too, despite being a side character. The story itself is a really quick and engaging read, with a fast-paced plot and endearing characters. Nura is determined to save her friend, but in attempting this rescue, she lands up through a portal in the world of the jinn.

This hilarious sci-fi adventure highlights the importance of friendship and having the courage to face your fears. There are several dark themes and important topics such as the value of education and the prevalence of child labour.spunky, not quite sure how to describe it, it's still a very solid debut and I'm excited to read more from this author. Khan has done a brilliant job in capturing both her boldness and the naivety she has about the world and I really valued the subtler message on the importance of education that is brought into the narrative as we follow her on her journey in this story too.
