Writing for Hot Press, John Walshe scored this album 9 out of 10, summing up that it is "respectful without being overawed of its subject, this is a wonderful collection". C., Bombay Bicycle Club, Let’s Eat Grandma, and Liz Phair, among many others, shows the enduring musical legacy left by Nick Drake. Products labelled '*item fulfilled by Exertis on behalf of hmv' will be supplied to you directly by Exertis via their approved couriers. To the surprise of no-one, the most successful versions on the album are by those that have folk music at their heart. Other songs such as Road exhibits Drake’s signature plucking, with its repetitive lyrics entrancing listeners.

Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at ourwarehouse. We are honoured and so grateful to all our friends, old and new, who took part in the making of this beautiful set.

Each of them brings their own perspective and a timeless take on the original material with the likes of Fontaines D. An Ooser-Rod, the lyric sheet’s glossary tells us, is “a devil’s penis, abnormally large” while The Dorset Ooser is a mask with grim jaws that’s worn by someone who’s also donning a cow’s skin to frighten people. The songs are darkly pastoral and hyper-local – there are numerous mentions of Eleven Acres (which I presume is the coppice of the same name near Bridport). C. retain their Irish-ness and produce what is, probably, the best single of their career – brilliant songwriting coupled with a great band is always going to win.

Similarly, in 2021 Demian Dorelli, a pianist from London, was bold enough to reimagine the entire Pink Moon album for piano. Guy Garvey has an obvious love for Nick Drake but his vocal simply can’t compete with the original on ‘Saturday Sun’. Autumn Term features spectral acoustic guitar over a lolloping drum groove that’s reminiscent of A Moon Shaped Pool-era Radiohead. The album features 23 tracks, which is a sufficient amount to give insight into his catalogue of 66 songs, only 31 of which were officially released.

Even the most ostensibly folky of contributors, the ones you’d expect to sound most like Drake, provide some wildly imaginative interpretations of his songs: Karine Polwart and Kris Drever’s Northern Sky becomes a tender duet, gaining a delicate shimmer and a soft blush of muted brass. This anecdote tells you a lot about the enduring appeal of the British folk musician, who has been repeatedly discovered by new generations of music fans ever since his death from an overdose of antidepressant tablets almost 50 years ago. The Endless Coloured Ways – The Songs Of Nick Drake is split into four seasons featuring reimagined covers of the singer’s staples, such as “From The Morning,”“Time Has Told Me,” and “I Think They’re Leaving Me Behind. Karine Polwart and Kris Drever take on ‘Northern Sky’, surely one of Drake’s greatest songs, and turn it into a simply stunning duet. It was really humbling to hear so many similar responses, with everyone saying how important Nick’s music was to them, and how much they wanted to be part of this project.

Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. I see my daughters talking about mental health a lot, and there’s a lot of discussion around that on social media,” he says. This works in the album’s favour: straight-up, reverent covers are never likely to match the originals, so it’s best to find new approaches. Yes, of course, there has to be sensitivity to what the original artist was trying to do but that does not necessarily mean similarity.Over 30 of them in all got involved with The Endless Coloured Ways, a collection of songs of his performed and recorded from a whole mix of different backgrounds, genres, age groups and audiences.
