Of the translations I've seen and read to date, I would recommend this translation above all others.

Using definitive original language texts such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, biblical scholars of L'Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem produced a meticulously accurate, wonderfully readable French translation of the complete canon of Scripture (La Bible de Jerusalem). It contains the full bible, with special features to help you understand and navigate the text:a glossary, with verse references, explaining key terms and themes, a chronological history, showing biblical events against contemporary world rulers and dynasties, an index of persons with verse references, brief introductions to every book, and almost 200 footnotes on key words and concepts. R. Tolkien translated the Book of Jonah for the Jerusalem Bible, although its final version was heavily edited, and he is listed among its "principal collaborators". Saw this listed in a list of 'must reads' for conservatives and thought, how could a translation of the good book be on this list? I thought that the notes of The Jerusalem would be similar in length to that of the New American Bible Revised Edition.

I am used to having the verse number start off the specified verse, with a large number marking the start of a chapter, or a clear chapter heading. E' una versione della bibbia facile da leggere e capire, usata nelle altre chiese, non solo quella cattolica. The Bible and the Dead Sea Scrolls as presented in Bible and computer: the Stellenbosch AIBI-6 Conference: proceedings of the Association internationale Bible et informatique, "From alpha to byte", University of Stellenbosch, 17–21 July, 2000 Association internationale Bible et informatique. I would definitely recommend this version of the bible for anyone who wants to get the most out of The Word. Unlike other Catholic Bibles I have reviewed on The Catholic Man Reviews, there are not any “extra” features, such as an appendix, glossary or maps. The print is darker on some pages than on others, but there are so many pages it would probably be hard to keep them all the same shade during printing depending on the press that was used. Now the earth was a formless void, there was darkness over the deep, and God's spirit hovered over the water. Formerly a senior lecturer in divinity at Christ's College, Liverpool, he studied at Upholland College in Lancashire, the Gregorian University, and the Biblical Institute in Rome, as well as L'École Biblique in Jerusalem.

The 1973 French translation, the Bible de Jerusalem, is followed only "where the text admits to more than one interpretation. The New Jerusalem Bible is an update to the Jerusalem Bible, an English version of the French Bible de Jérusalem.Coincidentally, the Qumran text sometimes agrees with the Septuagint, from about the same period, rather than with the later Masoretic text. The Revised New Jerusalem Bible has been prepared and edited by The Revd Henry Wansbrough OSB, who was previously General Editor of the New Jerusalem Bible. This volume presents the full New Testament and the Psalms, and a comprehensive set of study notes, cross-references and book introductions.
