Description

The JOYO JF-02 Ultimate Drive, as the name suggests, is a very versatile gain pedal effect. It has three control knobs, and the impact it gives you depends on the setting of the channel switch.

Overdrive pedals are one of the simplest of all guitar effects that most everyone uses or has used at some point in time.I found this scematic for the TS-5 online, and and then worked out which componants were mapped to which by following the traces on the JF-01: After doing this mod to my Ibanez TS-5 'soundtank' overdrive, and loving it so much on bass, I thought I'd try the same sort of thing on my Joyo JF-01. However, the JF-2 is special because it brings two of these pedal effects in one – specifically overdrive and distortion. There’s not too much more to say about the pedals functionality other than what’s been said. Even the manual that’s provided with the product has only two paragraphs. FEATURES

If you’re a guitarist or know great guitar legends, you’ll know one thing they don’t play with is their pedals. Pedals give your guitar signal unique effects that make your audience want more and more. The JOYO JF-02 Ultimate drive is one of such pedals. These different types of clipping are achieved using different (and varying amounts) of transistors in the circuit like mentioned earlier. It is designed to give you a transparent overdrive tone, which means it basically is supposed to keep the sound of your initial guitar tone clear in the mix. Sure there are pedals out there like Behringer‘s Compact series – which are great if you don’t plastic cases – but for the most part, if you’re looking for an affordable overdrive with a decent sound, then you’re likely to struggle.

I really like that its enclosure both pays homage to the original TS, and that they put a full-sized knob on for the gain so you can potentially turn it with your foot if you like to use multiple settings. So I replaced R19 with a 10k ohm resistor, R18 with a 3.3k ohm, C10 with an 820nF ( or 0.82μF ) mylar cap, and D2 and D3 with a 3mm red LED and a 1N4002 (observing the polarities). I’ve used one of these pedals, and I loved it, and I’ve hated every other tube screamer pedal I’ve ever plugged into.

Overdrive and distortion are very similar effects, and in fact, they essentially use the same circuit topology to operate. The biggest difference in overdrive and distortion in any guitar pedal is the way the pedal clips the signal. As for the tone, it’s a TubeScreamer. Listen to it and get the tone of literally thousands of great guitarists. Does it sound exactly as good as an original TS808 from the 80s? Probably not. But it won’t eat up much space on your board and is sturdy enough for gig use. A close comparison to this pedal would be the Harley Benton Vintage Overdrive, which also offers a decent beginner sound at an affordable price. This pedal has a wide list of notable users through the years, including Eddie Van Halen, Kurt Cobain, Johnny Greenwood (Radiohead) and Joe Satriani.

The newest pedal to be included in this list (It was released in August 2019), the Earthquaker Devices Plumes stands as an absolute gamechanger for both the boutique pedal world and for overdrive pedals in general. The Plumes is EQD’s own take on the classic TubeScreamer circuit, which many thought would never happen. Almost all overdrive pedals feature at least one band of EQ or tone to adjust the overall frequency range of the guitar tone. On a classic TubeScreamer pedal, the tone knob is essentially a Treble cut control, designed to lower the harshness of the signal after it has been overdriven. What’s the Difference Between Overdrive and Distortion? Overdrives usually use softer clipping and sometimes only add harmonics without actually clipping the signal, while distortion pedals use much more aggressive hard clipping. The voice switch is also a nifty tool that cuts some bass out of the signal, which makes it nice for getting a cutting lead tone. 6. Outlaw Effects Dumbleweed
