The hand-crafted clay ovens of Casa Herradura have been bringing out the rich flavour of agave for over a century. For their efforts, the brand has been graced with a plethora of prestigious awards including 41 awards and 25 gold medals. It is an amber-colored tequila liquor with notes of cooked agave, vanilla and butter complemented by a smooth and sweet finish with a touch of spice. Another important brand is el Jimador, launched in 1994 and named after those who harvest agave plants. In the 1990s, there was conflict over sales of shares in the company by some members of the family as well as agave growing land.

The name, which means horseshoe in Spanish, is a said to have come from the finding of a horseshoe on the hacienda property.
