Tamnavulin has a classic Speyside profile and is known for its smooth and soft character. Using water from the nearby River Lent, high-quality barley and ex-bourbon barrels, they’re able to produce approachable whisky with delicious notes of honey, fruit and malt.

The Double Cask expression was released in 2016 to celebrate Tamnavulin’s 50th anniversary, and was the first single malt released by the distillery in 20 years. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Bottled at 40% abv, the whisky is said to have ‘enticing aromas of vanilla, caramel, banana and milk chocolate’ on the nose and a palate with ‘warm, sweet flavours of maple syrup, raisin and orange’. Founded in 1966 in the small village of Tomnavoulin, Tamnavulin is a relatively modern distillery by scotch standards - but one that has experienced several ownerships and periods of inactivity. Though originally designed as a contributor to blends, it has been producing single malt expressions of its own since the 1990s and now has a substantial range of core bottlings and limited releases. The three pairs of stills at Tamnavulin have a total capacity of four million litres annually, though this has yet to be reached.

Double Cask matured for a classic Speyside taste; rich, smooth and mellow. The distillery at Tamnavulin was opened in 1966 on the banks of the River Livet, deep in the heart of Speyside, the most celebrated whisky producing region in Scotland. The Tamnavulin whisky distillery draws its water from underground springs in the surrounding hillside and takes its cooling waters from the River Livet, whose headwaters rise in the Grampians in Moray before flowing eleven miles until their confluence with the River Avon.No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. Any new functionalities, tools and features shall be part of and governed by the Terms from the moment they are launched and/or available. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”).

Their core range includes a selection of NAS offerings. The flagship bottle is the Double Cask , which was the distillery’s first release for over 20 years and has been finished in sherry butts to give it added richness. They have also launched a series of Red Wine Cask Editions, which sees Tamnavulin experiment with the likes of Spanish Grenache and German Pinot Noir . The colour is a deep amber and the nose is immediately fruity and sweet. Distinct aromas of green apple and pear mingle with others of muscovado sugar, dark dried fruit (think of raisin and sultana especially) and warming spice (imagine cinnamon and gingerbread in particular. There are also hints of milk chocolate and malted biscuits.

Tamnavulin was founded in 1966 by a subsidiary of Invergordon Distillers Ltd, the whisky distillery has changed little during its relatively short life. Woefully, the Tamnavulin is rather typical of 1960s-constructed distilleries and the exterior is decidedly industrial, in stark contrast to its markedly stunning locality.
